ADD/ADHD
As a teacher and MS in art therapy, I have extensive experience working with moderate to severe cases of ADHD. There are several art therapy techniques that have been proven with time to aid students to operate on grade level. Many of these I used with extreme cases of children with ADHD. I have worked with a panel of therapists and social workers to consult from my observations with ADD and AD/HD clients. Together we would report weekly progress to fellow team members including on-site nurses and psychiatrists in order to meet individual goals set by the team. In schools, art therapy techniques were used with students to help control their impulses. Teachers were advised by me when art therapy sessions indicated the student was not able to maintain control. This was a way for staff to be ready for extreme out of control behaviors. These exercises are primarily art and concrete based which helps students relate the physical space issues to their own spacial settings. These are most effective for students in grades 1-7.
Aspergers
As a teacher in NYS public schools and in doing work pursuing an MS in Art Therapy I've worked with and learned many skills to help elementary and middle grade students with Aspergers complete school work.
autism
I have worked with students in public schools who have varying degrees of Autism. With my background and many hours spent working with Autistic children directly, I use many art therapy techniques to teach children with Autism. It has been proven autistic children thrive when making art work. Making art may be the goal itself or used to motivate and engage in academic learning. The photos on my profile show progression over time with a moderate-severe autistic 9 year old client. 1st his person drawing is circles and scribbles, next he works with me to make simple facial expressions, after 4 months he is drawing cartoon characters.

Rosemary is a fantastic tutor and has been tremendously helpful. We homeschool our son, who is 14 years old and has Aspergers-related learning issues. (He is at a middle-school level in all subjects). Rosemary has been handling a large part of his reading and writing curriculum (grammar, reading, writing) through regular lessons. Her lessons are well-organized; she uses effective, step-by step teaching methods for lessons in grammar, and for reading/writing. Rosemary also makes sure that learning is always fun, and that our son never loses interest. (Our son enjoys Rosemary's lesson a great deal). Rosemary has much experience with special-needs kids and can provide insights into their strengths and weaknesses. Rosemary also very effectively uses hands-on art-related exercises to emphasize the creative/expressive aspects of language and writing. This has been particularly helpful for our son, who has demonstrated artistic talent but needs help in writing. We have been very pleased with his progress.

Rosemary has been very helpful and encouraging to my child who is struggling with reading and writing. While being patient and kind Rosemary has effective techniques that encourage my son to practice reading and feel confident in his ability to learn difficult material. He looks forward to meeting with Rosemary and even asks about her on days that we are not able to meet. Rosemary provided us with an insightful and astute assessment of our son's abilities and the possible things that could be holding him back in his reading. This is helpful to us as parents as we begin to overcome his reading difficulties and I believe this will help us to make progress. Rosemary provides one-on-one attention which my son responds to and appeals to his artistic abilities which help in his reading and with math concepts as well. We very pleased with our experience with Rosemary and are grateful for Rosemary's help.

My son was diagnosed with Dyslexia last spring. At 8 years old, he was barely identifying the whole alphabet and struggled to write his name. Rosemary has been a wonderful gift to us! Already, in just a few sessions, my son and I both see marked improvement in both his skills and his confidence around reading and writing. She is exceptionally patient and has a wealth of knowledge and tools to help my son learn techniques to navigate the tricky ins and outs of the written word. We are grateful for her and look forward to continued progress.

Rosemary has worked with my daughter, who has a learning disability, for the past year. Their time together has proven to be very helpful! She has worked with her on various academic needs and classes, including diverse strategies for comprehension and memory into each session. She has also worked with art therapy to help with motor skills functioning. Rosemary differentiates strategies and methods throughout her sessions. She is very knowledgeable about different strategies for different needs. She is patient, positive, and enthusiastic! She goes above and beyond, and her sessions have become a part of the week my daughter looks forward to. She is truly an excellent tutor!

Working with Rosemary was a true pleasure. My kids had such a wonderful time learning and developing their art skills with her. Rosemary broke things down for them to make it easy to understand and made sure to incorporate things they'd like in the lessons (Sponge Bob, animals etc.). She took the time to get to know their interests and this made learning techniques much more enjoyable and productive for them. Scheduling lessons was a breeze and I very much appreciated her flexibility. I recommend Rosemary without reservation.

Rosemary is someone you can trust to be kind, compassionate and bring out the best in you. She pretty much goes beyond drawing. She enters your world. At a time when I was unable to trust anyone, she taught me how to trust. Rosemary used art to teach me how to control my emotions and how to look past the traumas of my childhood and my fears of rejection and the pain of not knowing who I was. Before I met Rosemary, I didn’t know how to draw people. She taught me simple cartooning techniques that enabled me to express my emotions and feelings. When I didn’t know the words to express myself, I was able to explain myself though cartoons. I highly recommend Rosemary.
